The most common DEADLY ingredients in cleaning products include: nonyl phenol ethoxylates (NPE'S), triclosan, ethoxylated alkylphenols chlorine, ammonia, bleach, hydrochloric acid, parabens, phthalates, ethylene glycol butyl ether, methylene chloride, naphthalene, silica, toluene and trisodium phosphate and Nitrilotriacetic acid.
Because the wastewater with NPE'S in it, is poured down our drains, it gets into our underground water supplies and into the dams and rivers and could deform and kill aqua life.
The treatment at our sanitation plants in South Africa does not remove the nonyl phenol, and the wastewater after treatment is pumped back into our rivers.
The European Union has now banned many cleaning products in Europe that contain the cheap harsh ingredients. Unfortunately, in South Africa measures are more relaxed thus we must be vigilant to protect our loved ones, staff, and guests’ health.
Why are some of these deadly ingredients still in the products manufactured today?
It all comes down to the cost of producing the products, with many hazardous ingredients being cheap which reduces the manufacturing cost… thus more profit to the MANUFACTURERS!
